Cordelle’s Story

I first came to Christchurch Dental 15 years ago after a recommendation from local friends. After years of unpleasant experiences and anxiety about visits to the dentist I felt that Derek and his team listened to my concerns and issues and worked with me to overcome them.
I have a very sensitive gag reflex; even cleaning my own teeth at home can sometimes bring this on so I can find it hard to be fully reclined, have impressions or just generally be in the chair.

Having been at the practice for several years and been made more and more comfortable I decided in 2014 to begin the journey to straighten my teeth through Invisalign. I had a veritable jumble of teeth in my mouth so with Derek’s support I started the process. It took longer than usual but due to the care I received through the process, sometimes discussing and agreeing new ways to take the dreaded impressions (such as standing, or using calming techniques we had both read about) I got there in the end and I am now delighted with my perfectly, slightly imperfect teeth. The hygienists here are excellent too and also work with me and my issues so I don’t feel anxious at all in any appointment.

Just recently I had an appointment following a chipped tooth and Derek was concerned it would be difficult for me as he wanted to use a particular isolation technique called rubber dam to isolate the tooth, but the combination of patience, care and attention to my personal needs meant it went really well – much better than expected and we were both surprised by how well it had gone.

I would recommend Derek and his team to anyone as he has taken the time to understand me and my needs rather than apply a one size fits all approach.
